Kettle Falls Five Update.

High Everybody!

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Three people were found guilty Tuesday of growing marijuana, but they also were exonerated of more serious charges in a widely-watched federal drug case in a state where medical and recreational marijuana is legal.
The three remaining defendants of the so-called Kettle Falls Five were all found guilty of growing marijuana. But a jury found them not guilty of distributing marijuana, conspiracy to distribute and firearms charges that carried long prison sentences.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Rice set sentencing for June 10.
The defendants were Rhonda Firestack-Harvey, her son Rolland Gregg and his wife, Michelle Gregg.
Firestack-Harvey wiped away tears as she declared victory in the case.
"The truth comes out," she said, noting that the defendants were growing marijuana for medical purposes and had cards permitting that use. "We would have loved to be exonerated of all charges."
However, there was no doubt that federal drug agents found marijuana plants growing on their property near Kettle Falls, she said.
Federal prosecutors did not speak with reporters after the verdict, which followed a full day of deliberations by the jury.
Prosecutors asked that the three be taken into custody until sentencing, but Rice declined.
"It's a victory, but it's bittersweet," said Jeff Niesen, an attorney for Firestack-Harvey. "They've been convicted of a federal crime."
But while the tougher charges carried sentences of a decade in prison, growing marijuana should bring a much lower sentence, Niesen said.
On Monday, attorneys for the defendants asked jurors to throw out what he described as an overzealous and overreaching case.
Attorney Phil Tefleyan criticized the government's prosecution of the three, who contend they were growing medical marijuana for personal use in a case that has drawn wide attention over the government's willingness to prosecute marijuana growers.
"They roped in this innocent family," Tefleyan told jurors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Earl Hicks told jurors Monday that Washington state's stance on marijuana doesn't matter. He says the question for the jury is, "Is it legal under federal law?"
The defendants contend they didn't distribute the marijuana. But they were barred from telling jurors their claim that they grew the marijuana only for personal medical use. That issue can be raised during sentencing.
Tefleyan said the government could not point to a single sale of the drug by the family. He said the evidence seized by drug enforcement agents during a raid in August 2012 — 4 pounds of marijuana and about $700 in cash — didn't support the conclusion the family was dealing.
The government has argued the family grew the plants in violation of federal law. "I don't believe there's any question in this case that we're talking about the manufacture of marijuana," Hicks told the jury.
Tefleyan placed blame for those plants on Jason Zucker, a former defendant who cut a plea deal last week, just before the trial started.
Zucker, 39, testified Friday that he fronted $10,000 in costs to get the operation up and running. Zucker's plea deal called for a 16-month sentence.
Zucker testified that the marijuana cultivation began on property owned by Larry Harvey in early 2011. Zucker said he was approached by Harvey's son, Rolland Gregg, in Seattle to set up a marijuana plot on the 33-acre parcel about 9 miles north of Colville.
Gregg's wife, Michelle, and his mother, Rhonda Firestack-Harvey, also participated in the operation, and the five evenly split their crop at the end of the year, Zucker testified.
Larry Harvey, 71, was recently dismissed from the case after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in December.

Lawmaker wants to ban dry pot from medical stores

Taken from Drew Mikkelsen, KING 5 News 7:19 p.m. PST January 15, 2015

OLYMPIA, Wash. --

Regulating the state's medical marijuana system could put Patrick Seifert's collective garden out of business.
"Give me regulations, give me a fee," said Seifert, who owns Olympia's "Rainier Xpress." "Just let me stay open!"
Seifert is concerned about a bill sponsored by Senator Ann Rivers, R-Clark County.
Rivers calls her bill the "Cannabis Patient Protection Act."
It would require medical store owners to get licensed with the state's Department of Health and all products would have to be tested.
"We need to make sure our patients are getting what they were promised," said Rivers.
Rivers said she is also concerned about marijuana users trying to dodge taxes associated with recreational pot sales at stores licensed under Initiative 502.
That's one reason she wants to limit the products available at medical stores to edibles and liquids.
Her bill would bar medical locations from offering dry pot, the substance commonly smoked by patients and recreational users.
"Do you smoke an aspirin? Do you smoke the hydrocodone that you get from your physician for your pain?" asks Rivers. "Let's treat it like medicine."
She said patients who want dry products should still be able to buy them, without paying sales taxes, at recreational locations.
Seifert estimates 80 percent of his patients buy dry pot, in some cases in addition to edibles or concentrated oils.
He said eliminating dry products would likely close his collective garden and he fears his patients would not be able to find effective strains of medical marijuana at recreational locations.
Seifert said strains of medical marijuana that cater to pain sufferers may not be available at state licensed recreational stores.
"It's not going to be a priority of a 502 shop owner," said Seifert.

Holy New Year Everybody! E. K. Green and the Shiatsu Kush

High Everybody!

  New Year New Treats

It has been a great start to the New Year. We are back with a new strain from a new dispensary. Today's post is on Shiatsu Kush from E. K. Green in Spokane Valley. Stop in and see my man Austin at 21 S. Thierman Rd. Suite C.Spokane Valley.

E.K. Green is nicely located in a small business strip across the street from Starbucks Coffee. The location is pretty much dead-center between downtown and the eastern side of the Valley. While the parking is slightly limited, I have never had any issues finding a spot right at the door. The parking lot is paved but patients needing wheelchair accessibility should know it will be a little tight if the lot has several cars in it. I might recommend stopping in a little later in the day, after the other business are closed if accessibility is an issue.

Once inside, the service is one at a time so you will be able to ask any questions that you might have about the many products they serve while in a one-one environment. A full list of the current stock is available here. The waiting room is very comfortable with ample amounts of space should you need to wait a few moments before going back to see the tender. One great nugget of customer service here is that they will include extra flowers for you should you need to use the ATM. A nice little treat and a great way to make up for the fee charged at the ATM which is $3.00. At the time of my visit I was happy to learn that soon E. K. Green will be stocking High Class Concentrates although my visit today is for flowers, I will be back to try the new concentrates.

My tender and I share many aspects and symptoms of two different Gastrointestinal diseases and I was introduced to this lovely Shiatsu Kush strain.

Shiatsu Kush-
Shiatsu Kush comes from the island of Amami Oshima, a powerful hybrid strain brought from Japan reportedly by BC Bud Depot. Bred for its potent relief of pain, tension, and stress. Shiatsu Kush induces a heavy relaxation that calms the mind and body but is not overwhelming.

My notes:
Strain – Shiatsu Kush – Jan 2015
Grower – E.K. Green Recommendation for Gastrointestinal Issues.
Look – Beautiful purples, greens and dark oranges, if you can see them through the crystals.

Oder – The smell is amazingly sweet, like what citrus cotton candy would smell like. There is also a slight flowery note, like a lavender or a light perfume though it is certainly not overly pungent.

First Hit – Very tasty and sweet. I bit stronger on the citrus side than the sweet candy side of the spectrum. The flavor is lovely and smooth. I noticed a lightly sweet and earthy note on the back end which is very pleasant.

The High – Very refreshing and uplifting with an equal balance of soothing mind and body sensations ranging from mild to fairly strong depending on dosing.

Stoniness – On a scale from 1 to 10 I would put this strain right in the middle at 5. The overall feeling is invigorating and will allow you to focus your energies where they need be with just one or two hits.

Body High – I felt very relaxed and was able to feel some relief from the sore neck I have had for the last few days.

Mind High – Again the feeling is very relaxing but also keeps you alert and able to focus and let creative or other problem solving skills flow, leaving those ready to accomplish the day or just the task at hand readily able to do so.

Anxiety Reduction & Pain Relief (different types of pain?) This strain is helpful for mild to moderate muscle soreness, headaches, and mild joint pain. For anxiety and stress, small doses of Shiatsu Kush can be perfect for daily needs as well as continues use. Because Shiatsu will not leave you completely incapacitated those patients needing slightly higher doses to even much higher doses (a full joint or maybe a bowl or two) you will still be able to attack the day!

Final Note: Both E. K. Green and the Shiatsu Kush are excellent choices for both a primary provider and medication. I HIGHLY recommend a visit. You will feel very comfortable and will receive world class service from each and every member of the staff.

Happy Medicating!
