I received my tester pack just before heading out on
vacation, so you can imagine my excitement returning home and having
some special beans to pop!!
I put all six seeds from each pack into 1.5 inch rock-wool cubes and labeled them in sections 1-3 and 4-6.
After about 36 hours the first had sprouted (#2 from
EPTA). The following morning many more had sprouted. (EPTA 4 of 6, ALCI 3
of 6, ALLA 2 of 6, and YMPH 5 of 6)
After four days all but 2
beans had sprouted (ALLA #2,#6 no pop) The ALCI group looks best to me.
Each sprout is clearly strong and growing quite vigorously toward the
light with the YMPH group coming up next with just a little slower
growth. The ALLA group is bringing up the rear with 2 no pops and #5
from the group being about half the size the rest of the sprouts are.
Today is day 9 going into day 10 of planting the seeds
and I am going to transplant them into some small containers with
sensi-sci light soil.

Three weeks from sprouting and the group as a whole is looking very
well. However, from the ALLA test group that had two seeds that did not
germinate, I lost one sprout after 2 weeks leaving this test group with
only three plants which are doing very well.
Average height of plants in each group
ALCI: 8 1/8 inches
EPTA: 8.5 inches
YMPH: 6.5 inches
ALLA: 7 1/3 inches
Structure From greatest overall to least:
EPTA:
Most developed stocks at 2-3cm for entire group and displaying the most
consistent node spacing from leaf set to leaf set. Each has 5 to 6
nodes.
ALCI: All of the plants in set are very strong with common
stock width of 2cm and bulking. Each has 5 nodes that are very
consistently spaced apart.
YMPH: This test set has shown the
most variation in growth and base stock width. 3 of this group are very
robust and have both shown extra vigor, while the other half of this
group is slow to catch up. 4 of the 5 largest show consistent node
spacing and over all this group shows signs of greatness, even though
the have grown much less uniformly than the other 4 test groups (Besides
the loss of half of ALLA).
ALLA: This group is quite amazing.
While 2 did not germinate and 1 was lost shortly after germination the
remaining 3 are very healthy though they are displaying some less than
desirable traits. 1 from this test group is very strong and would
compare to the other test groups, it is the most developed plant from
the entire 4 groups and has begun to push out its branches from the
lower nodes (beyond leafs no other plant in the test tent has developed
this much). The remaining 2 have very slender stocks from 1-2 cm and
have shown a bit of over stretching.
